in the Medieval village of Monterchi, Tuscany
Tuscan Townhouse

Monterchi enjoys an excellent central location in northern Italy, perfect for combining Tuscany and Umbria but also within easy day trip reach of the coast and even Rome. Monterchi's position a few miles from Arezzo and near the Umbrian border offers a range of stunning towns, both famous and undiscovered on its doorstep. Within a few miles are Anghiari, Sansepolcro, Citta di Castello, Caprese Michelangelo (Michelengelo's birthplace), La Verna (where St Francis received the stigmata) and other beautiful Renaissance delights, together with the natural parks and forests for which the Valtiberina is famous.

Monterchi is perfectly situated to explore all of the main sites of Tuscany such as Florence, Siena, Lucca and Pisa but offers a unique perspective on the real Tuscany. Although tourist sites in the area are plentiful, life continues in this area of Tuscany at a slower pace and is all the better for that. You can mix day trips to the likes of Florence or Siena with walks and trips to the local markets and restaurants and see the real side of Tuscany.

Monterchi's strategic position means that you can easily stetch your wings beyond Tuscany. The village looks onto the next hilltown, which is across the border into Umbria and the E45 superstrada offers easy access to the famous towns of Umbria such as Perugia, Gubbio and Assisi, together with the Adriatic coast to the east and Emilia Romagna and Bologna to the north. Even Rome is an easy day trip by car or better still on the fast train from Arezzo (just over an hour).
